Backpacking Trips:
We will be taking a limited amount of PAL Members on a 2 night 3 day backpacking trip. If you choose to sign up, there is a mandatory parent participant meeting one week before the trip. More information upon registration. One trip per Member. Please remember this program is for high school students only. For more information please call the PAL office. Lead by officers Randy Heald and Todd Mefford.


Deep Sea Fishing:
We will be leaving from the San Mateo Police Department and enjoying a short drive to Half Moon Bay where we head out for the high seas. Please dress in layers and bring a large bag lunch. All bait, tackle and equipment is provided. More information upon registration. Lead by officers Paul Jung and Ralph Migita.


Indoor Soccer:
Players must attend one of the two skill assessments which will take place before the league begins (dates and times will be mailed out to you). All players will be assigned to a team. Families will be notified of their teams practice and game schedule. Practices are held on weekdays and games are held on Saturdays. More information upon registration.


Kayaking Adventure:
It's time to paddle!!! We will be taking our new ocean kayaks to a fabulous location for a day of fun. PAL will be providing a BBQ lunch and all of the necessary equipment for this mini trip. More information upon registration.


Mountain Biking:
Sun, dirt, trees, fresh air and a wonderful adventure! Off to the hills we go with our new PAL mountain bikes. We will be showing us a wonderful way to see the Bay Area. More information upon registration.


PAL Bay Fishing:
Join some of San Mateo 's finest police officers as we depart from Emeryville for this exciting San Francisco Bay Fishing Trip. Keep your fingers crossed for great weather so you can see the Golden Gate Bridge , Alcatraz and Angel Island close up!! More information upon registration. Lead by officers Paul Jung and Ralph Migita.


PAL Computer Lab:
It's computer time. PAL has a computer lab, located at the Martin Luther King Center. This is a drop-in program. We have one staff person on site to monitor the computers and for homework assistance. Technical problems may cause the computer lab to close without notice. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.


PAL Cops & Kids Bowling:
You are cordially invited to join us for a fun-filled afternoon of bowling, food and fun. Each year our event has grown and we owe that success to all of the officers who have donated their afternoon to be with the kids. There is no cost to you. This event is fun and exciting for all!


PAL Judo:
The Judo program is an exciting opportunity for youth to build Goal setting, Respect, Initiative, Perseverance, and Skill mastery. This is a year-round program taught by Sensei Officer Mike Buckle and his coaches. There are fees related to this program. All participants are expected to purchase a uniform, which runs about $45. We also ask that you purchase a membership to the United States Judo Federation.


PAL Jr. Giants:
Batter Up!!!! Our free Baseball league is sponsored by the San Francisco Giants Community Fund. All players will receive a team shirt and hat. This is a program that is designed for youth to learn about baseball in a Fun and exciting way. San Mateo offers four divisions ranging from tee-ball to high school rules. Practice will be held one day a week and all games will be played on Saturdays for 1 1/2 hours. More information upon registration.


PAL/MLK Winter Basketball Camp:
Come join our experienced and energetic staff, volunteers, and Police Officers for 9 days of basketball “fun-damentals.” Shooting, dribbling, passing and defense will be covered through exciting drills, interactive games, and small group discussions. All participants will receive a nutritious snack daily as well as an exclusive program shirt.


PAL Tennis Program:
Introduce your child to the great game of tennis with an emphasis on FUN!! Through a series of FUN-filling games and activities your child will be introduced to the basic skills of tennis. With total participation they will also enhance their hand-eye coordination and teamwork skills. Rackets are provided.


Rock Climbing Trips:
Ropes, Rocks, and Confidence is the name of this game. This is an overnight rock climbing trip that will be lead by San Mateo Police Officers and staff from Epic Adventures. If you like to challenge yourself and try new things this could be a great adventure for you. We will be heading to Big Basin for two days of rock climbing FUN on Castle Rock. Lead by Officer Larry Wright.


Ropes Course:
The ropes course is set up to encourage communication, decision-making, leadership, self esteem and to develop a personal relationship between the youth and police officers involved. It's time to head up to Fort Miley in San Francisco , to face our fears and explore new challenges. This is a great program not to be missed.


Snow Play Day:
Winter snow clothing is required! Please bring hats, gloves, warm jacket, etc. All the slipping and sledding you can do. A light breakfast and lunch is included with this trip. There is a snack bar at the resort. We will be leaving at 5:00 am and returning no later than 7:00 pm. We are leaving from and returning to the PAL office.


Tae Kwon Do:
Traditional martial arts values of discipline, control, and respect. The stances, punching and kicking techniques taught in the class will be based in the Tae Kwon Do style. The emphasis of the course will be on the basics, the proper mechanics of punching and kicking, as well as speed, balance, and power. Instructors include Lieutenat Alan Parisian, Sergeant Gordon Sievert, Detective Jenny Guy and Officer Greg Moore. Lead by officers Genny Guy, Gordon Sievert, Greg Moore, Alan Parisian.


Teen Ski Trips:
A snowboarding/ski season to Boreal. Trips includes breakfast on the bus, transportation, all day lift tickets and supervision. Delaware Street . All equipment must be rented in town before the day of trip, due to the availability at the resorts, unless you are purchasing a lesson package. Teen Adventure:
Designed especially for San Mateo PAL Members, we will take small groups of teens on great adventures. Participants, PAL Staff & Police Officers will meet at designated locations before heading out. Participants must be pre-registered and be San Mateo PAL Members.


Youth Adventures:
Designed especially for San Mateo PAL Members, we will be having a wide variety of activities for PAL youth. Participants, PAL Staff & Police Officers will meet at the designated location and head off to an adventure. Participants must be pre-registered and be San Mateo PAL Members.


Youth Anger Management/Anti-Gang Classes:
The class is designed to get a better understanding of how gangs and bullies can affect your life. You will learn skills in recognizing bullying and gang intimidation, triggers of escalation, and coping strategies through problem solving and self-control. The instructors will also focus on gang awareness & prevention, conflict resolution, and anger management.


Youth Directors Council: An opportunity to be an active advocate for Youth involved with the Police Activities League and in the community. You get to help design new programs, attend leadership workshops, teach other youth, gain community service hours for school, and help with outreach efforts.
